Fish: Squid / Loligo vulgaris /

 

Description The squid are cephalopods. The squid have a distinct head, bilateral symmetry, a mantle, and arms. Squid like cuttlefish, have eight arms arranged in pairs and two, usually longer, tentacles. Two arms of which are long and use to hunt. The skin is covered in chromatophores, which enable the squid to change color to suit its surroundings, making it practically invisible. It lives from the same shore, up to more than 500 m deep. It is of Twilight customs.

Size: The majority are no more than 55 cm. / 4 years

Diet: It’s a very voracious predator. It feeds on fish, prawns and other cephalopods. becomes “Cannibal”

When Do you catch it in Barcelona: to start November until February . Also the month : March and April are good.

Fishing Technique: Squid jog and Trolling Squid Fishing in sunset and sunshine.  

As food: The squid is eaten in many cuisines; the culinary name calamar is often used for squid dishes, notably fried squid (fried calamar). Cook over low heat so that it is soft. Small specimens can be directly grilled. The big ones are better to cook them: with onion, with potatoes, etc… Another typical recipe is “a la Romana”.
