Technical Overview
Construction period: July 27 – August 1, 2026
Current stage: Structural deck vacuum infusion.
Objective: To build a lightweight, rigid and structurally uniform deck using advanced vacuum infusion technology.
Result: The deck has been fully laminated, consolidated and is now ready for the next assembly phase.
Why it matters: This stage plays a major role in determining the trimaran’s structural strength, final weight and long-term durability.
Did you know? In vacuum infusion, the resin is not pushed through the mould. Instead, vacuum pressure draws it evenly across the laminate, ensuring an optimal fibre-to-resin ratio. The result is a lighter, stronger and higher-quality structure than traditional hand lay-up methods.
On August 1st, the team at OLBAP Shipyard successfully completed one of the most important milestones in the construction of the Marín(us) : the structural vacuum infusion of the deck.
The process began with the installation of the vacuum and resin distribution system, followed by the careful placement of the fibreglass fabrics and structural cores. Every reinforcement is positioned according to the loads the deck will withstand throughout its service life.
Once the structure was prepared, the deck was sealed under a vacuum bag. This removes trapped air, compresses all the composite materials and creates the ideal conditions for the resin to flow evenly through the entire laminate.
The vacuum infusion process produces a lighter, stronger and more rigid structure while reducing excess resin and improving the overall quality and consistency of the composite.
After the initial curing stage, all auxiliary materials were removed, leaving the deck fully consolidated and ready for the next construction phase.
During this stage, drainage channels were also integrated between the storage compartments, allowing rainwater and seawater to drain quickly and helping to keep the deck safer during navigation and fishing trips.
Although these details will remain hidden once the boat is completed, they are essential to the engineering that defines the trimaran’s strength, durability and long-term performance at sea.
